Britney Spears, the artist synonymous with pop music and headline-grabbing antics, is coming to Adelaide.
After months of campaigning by fans, Spears will bring her Circus tour to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on November 29.
The Adelaide show will be the final Australian concert for Spears, who will then celebrate her 28th birthday in Australia before heading back to the U.S.
The announcement follows weeks of negotiations by promoters on the logistics of bringing Spears’ first Australian tour to Adelaide.
The Advertiser can reveal the stage will take in almost the entire floor area of the Entertainment Centre, featuring almost 50 performers, including a dance team, acrobats, aerial performers, contortionists, a fire-breather, stilt-walkers and magicians.
The show, which will dwarf Pink’s Funhouse tour, has been criticised because of Spears’ lip-syncing, but promoter Paul Dainty says the Circus tour is a “spectacle”.
“It’s 34 trucks of equipment, it takes a day and a half to build the production,” he said.
“This is not just an artist that comes on and sings. I would describe it as Cirque du Soleil meets the biggest concert spectacular ever. Britney’s is the biggest one I’ve seen.”
Performing “in the round”, fans will be given 360-degree views of the stage and will be up to 50 per cent closer to the superstar than for most ordinary concert seating plans.
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Tuesday, September 29, through Ticketek.
