Do your kids like the new record? What have they said about it?
Yes. They definitely dance to it but its kind of funny because they are still confused …. It’s like, ‘who is this Britney Spears singer in contrast to mommy?’
How has your involvement in the record-making process changed over the years?
I have always been heavily involved in every album I have ever made. I’m very stubborn when it comes to recording and will only record songs I love, which is why it takes me a long time to make an album. I have to feel connected before I record and the song has to spark something inside me. Very few songs do that. I guess it’s a good process because I love all of my music. I know there are a lot of artists that hate songs they recorded. I don’t feel that way.
What was your idea for the overall sound of this album?
I wanted to make a fresh-sounding album for the clubs or something that you play in your car when you’re going out at night that gets you excited but I wanted it to sound different from everything else out right now. I also wanted to experiment with all the different types of music I love which is why you hear a mixture of pop, hip-hop and dance throughout the album. I also really wanted to play with my voice and change up my sound here and there which was really fun.
You hear traces of some real cutting-edge dance music on the album – for instance, the dubstep break on “Hold It Against Me.” How do you find new sounds?
I listen to a lot of different music from all over the world and I guess I just gravitate towards what sounds fresh and what makes me want to move. I really didn’t want to record anything on this album that could be mistaken for anyone else out there. I think my first two singles, “Hold It Against Me” and “Till The World Ends,” sound completely different from anything else and I think when my fans hear the rest of Femme Fatale they’ll see how fresh every song is.
Do you still go out to clubs? What kind of dance music do you like?
I don’t go out that much anymore but when I do, I definitely like to go out and dance. I’m a big vibe person when it comes to music so a song really has to make me feel a certain way in order for me to fall in love with it. I love hard pounding dance songs with really beautiful melodies over them. Those are my favorites.
What kind of music do you listen to at home?
I love the Peas but I also love Deadmau5. I guess I’m all over the place. Lately I have been listening to Robyn and Adele non-stop but I also love to find new artists that very few people know about. It’s one of my favorite things to do because it’s like being part of a secret. Friends and people around me are always showing me new artists that they love and that’s how I learned about Sabi and ended up working with her on “(Drop Dead) Beautiful.” I have always wanted to feature a new artist on one of my albums and she is really cool.
What led to your collaboration with willi.am? What was it like working with him?
The Peas make incredibly catchy, fun pop/dance records and I LOVE will.i.am’s style. I have always wanted to do a song with him and would love to work with him more in the future. He is so interesting.
Dr. Luke has become a big-name producer in his own right since your last album – is it different working with him now?
Not really. We have known each other for a really long time. Most people don’t know this but we actually worked together when I was recording “Blackout.” He was incredible back then and he has only gotten better over the years.
Dr. Luke said last fall that “I want [the sound] to get harder in some ways, and maybe a little more deep into electronic — grimier.” Did you have that same agenda for the album? Do you feel like you accomplished that?
When we first sat down to talk about Femme Fatale I knew I wanted to make a dance album that was ahead of everything else out there but unique to me which is why I was so picky with the recording process. I only wanted songs that I immediately connected to. I also wanted to make sure that this album was completely different from Circus or anything else I had ever recorded. I love Circus but I wanted something darker and edgier. I also wanted to make an album and didn’t want to just record a bunch of songs and put them together. I think Femme Fatale is really connected from start to finish.
What is it about Max Martin that makes you so comfortable collaborating with him? How much bigger of a role did he take on this album than he did for “Circus”?
Max played a huge role on this album and he has been there since the beginning so there is such a huge level of trust. He gets exactly what I am saying when I tell him what I want and don’t want musically. His melodies are incredible and he is always coming up with weird sounds, which I love. The whistle on “I Wanna Go” still gets me every time I hear it. Who would have thought of that? There is nobody I feel more comfortable collaborating with in the studio.
How would you characterize the studio relationship between Max and Dr. Luke?
They are two peas in a pod. It’s a total bromance.

#1 On iTunes Songs Chart
Sets New One-Day Precedent As Single Tops Charts Within Hours Of Its Release
New York, NY – Perhaps USA Today sums it up best, “Spears’ new single delivers enough dizzying dance-pop ecstasy to ensure another chart-topping ride…”
Following the digital release of “Hold It Against Me” on Monday, 1/10/11, Britney Spears shatters all previous records for the most number of spins for a first or one-day at both Mediabase and BDS, according to one of the radio industry’s top analysts Kevin McCabe, founding principal of Musicrunch.
“Top 40 outlets across the country immediately put ‘Hold It Against Me’ in rotation and received instant-reaction airplay at America’s most-influential stations including Z100 and WXRK in New York and KIIS and KAMP in Los Angeles,” states McCabe.
Sharon Dastur, program director for New York’s Z100, one of the top influential pop radio stations in the country says, “Ever since we played it yesterday, the reaction has been phenomenal. The audience loves it!”
In addition to the overwhelming fan response at radio, the sales story is also impressive; in less than a day of its release, “Hold It Against Me” is the #1 Song on iTunes.
Britney had 619 spins at Mediabase in what was only a partial day of spins for Monday, 1/10/11. At BDS, Britney had 595 first or one-day spins – also on a partial day’s worth of airplay. Britney’s big one-day powered her onto the BDS one-day building chart at 16* and perhaps even more impressive was her audience debut at 7*.
As expected, Spears is also a trending topic on twitter worldwide.

It’s been over two years since Britney Spears released her sixth studio album Circus, and with the welcoming of 2011, the reigning princess of pop is set to take back the music scene. Tuesday, Spears is set to release her first single “Hold It Against Me” from her forthcoming album slated to hit stores and iTunes in March.Spears’ managers Larry Rudolph and Adam Leber gave Ryan a first listen to the high-energy single on Thursday, which blew away the demo that leaked online earlier this morning. Leber played the song off of his trusted iPod Classic in Ryan’s radio studio (see photo below). Britney’s managing team also played a second song for Ryan, “I I I Wanna Go” another powerhouse single from the new album.
Rudolph and Leber explained to Ryan that the creative process for “Hold It Against Me” music video is well underway and are nothing short of spectacular. Spears has been rehearsing choreography for the video for a month now, and will shoot in two weeks.
Check back to RyanSeacrest.com Tuesday for the premiere of “Hold It Against Me”!

Doctor Luke tweeted fans more lyrics from Britney’s new single “Hold It Against Me”

Britney Spears fans may still have a few months of anxious waiting before her seventh full-length’s March release, but the pop star is reportedly dropping her first piece of new music in a little over a week. “Hold It Against Me,” a new single that will presumably be included on the still-untitled follow-up to 2008′s “Circus,” will premiere on Jan. 7, according to New York radio station Z100′s program director, Sharon Dastur.
In the issue of Entertainment Weekly hitting newsstands tomorrow (Dec. 31), Dastur says that fans won’t be disappointed when the single, which was produced by Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald and Max Martin, hits radio next Friday. “The beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists – this infectious bass beat beneath the song,” says Dastur. “Plus, the hook is just amazing.”
Dr. Luke, who is executive-producing the album alongside Martin, confirmed the title of the single on Twitter earlier this month, although he said that lyrics to the song that had been floating around the internet were inaccurate. Before he began work on the album, Gottwald revealed that he wanted Spears’ sound to delve “a little more into electronic — grimier,” during a keynote Q&A at the Billboard Film & TV Music Conference:

I already told you that Britney Spears might be getting “freaky” on her upcoming—and mucho anticipated—album.
How’s that coming along? Well, I just got word that her team recently put together a “writing camp” of top music producers and writers. They were apparently flown to Dallas for a few days to brainstorm and collaborate on new songs for Spears…
“I know that ‘Usual You’ off the last album [Circus] has been tossed around like, ‘Use this as kind of a jumping off point,’ “ OneRepublic frontman and über-hitmaker Ryan Tedder told me last night at Ralph Lauren’s Big Pony Collection fragrance launch event at the Chateau Marmont hotel.
Even though Tedder—who’s produced megatracks for superstars like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson—didn’t take part in the writer’s camp, he says Spears producer Max Martin is considering a song he produced with Dan Black.

“It’s mind-bendy and trippy,” Tedder said, adding, “I applaud the label for saying, ‘We’re not going to do what’s always been done.’ I think Britney’s such an innovator. She needs to be in the forefront, you know what I mean? You can’t come out with something sounding like someone else.”

Get ready for some Britney Spears hotness! And we’re not talking about the pop princess’ upcoming Glee episode. We are very happy to report.
Brit is back in the studio making some new music. Uber-producer Sean Garrett tells us he’s set to reunite with Spears on a song or two. He co-produced and sang on “Toy Soldier” from her 2007 album, Blackout.
“I’m going into the studio with her,” Garrett told us yesterday at the VMAs. “I love Britney. I want to help her grow. I want to do stuff that’s going to be able to travel around the world.”
Spears’ last album, Circus, was released in November 2008 and was followed by a world tour. “I’m glad to see her back,” Garrett said. “I really would like to get into her mind and find out what loving Britney is all about.”
He added with a very big smile, “It could get a little freaky.”
